Make Money As a Grant Writer by Choosing A Niche
By Katie • Jan 26th, 2011 • Category: Recent ArticlesThere is nothing more challenging and rewarding than the decision to become an entrepreneur and start your own grant writing business. Many people have done it before, and using their experience and expertise is a great way to increase your chances of success.
Some of the books I’d read if I were starting my grant writing business today:
- Careers in Grant Writing by Caroline Reeder
- Grant Writing For Dummies
by Bev Browning
In addition, I think an important aspect of running a successful business is to choose a niche. It’s very difficult to become the “best grant writer” in your market, but signficantly easier to become the “best health care grant writer” in your market. A few of the grant writing areas of specialization that I imagine are out there are listed below. I’d love to hear if you have any others I have missed.
Grant writing business niches:
- Nonprofits
- Health Care
- SBIR
- Low-income housing
- University Research
- K-12 Education
- Small business
- Federal grants
- Arts & Culture
