Founded in 1981, Isles, Inc. is a nationally recognized nonprofit community development and environmental organization with the mission to foster more self-reliant families in healthy, sustainable communities. Isles operates programs of community gardening, environmental health, nature-based environmental education, open space, exercise and nutrition, affordable housing development, community planning and youth-job-training.
We have an immediate opportunity for a full-time Grant Writer
General Summary:
The Grant Writer supports all aspects of the fundraising activities and is responsible for: writing grant proposals and reports; tracking grant proposals and awards; assisting with other Resource Development functions as required, and communicating Isles mission, program plans, and goals to funders throughout the country.
Essential Functions:
• Write grant proposals and status reports, ensuring high quality standards and meeting all deadlines.
• Express complex program activity in clear, convincing language, in writing and verbally, that motivates funders to support our work and deepen their relationship with the organization
• Research new funding opportunities, connecting the organization’s mission and potential funders
• Maintain up-to-date records and files.
• Participate in and contribute to program research, design, development and evaluation discussions
• Serve as liaison to government and program partners, as need be.
• Assist with other Resource Development duties as needed, including special events and direct mail.
• Assist with other writing and editing projects, as needed.
• Planning and maintenance of grant calendars of all funders
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. One -two years professional writing experience, preferably in proposal development. Experience in fundraising and nonprofit fields desirable.

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple, simultaneous projects
• Strong research skills
• Ability to turn around high-quality projects on tight deadlines
• Ability to work in a highly cooperative setting and interact with individuals at every level of the organization
• Desire to take personal responsibility for the success of fundraising
• Ability to see the relationships between organization’s programs and funder objectives
• Strong commitment to the organization’s mission
• Fluent in general computing skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and database software
